Fall Ooh La La Box Contents Revealed!

Just a week after we sadly announced the cancellation of the 32nd annual Out of Hand Modern Market, we were uplifted by the enthusiasm of the many subscribers of our Ooh La La Box who received a small representation of our market in their fall box.

Thank to all of the subscribers of this box – I hope you love your box!

We worked with ten amazing makers to create the fall Ooh La La Box. Some of these goods have been exclusively designed for this box. In anticipation of the cooler, uncertain weeks ahead that this season will bring, my hope is that the eight incredible products in this box help you to feel cozy, calm and cared for.

Here is a list of the beautiful goods in our fall Ooh La La Box:

Stacker Bracelets by Woven Stone Co, Saanich

An Ooh La La Box exclusive, designer Jillian Schumarcher created this pair of stacking bracelets exclusively for this box. Just about every single day, I am wearing stacking bracelets, my wrist feels naked without them. These bracelets are pretty special as they are not only stylish but calming as well. Both have Flower Amazonite, a stone of courage that promotes hope, truth and connection and one has porous lava stones that we recommend you add the Bilston Lavender Oil to and enjoy the diffusing benefits. Value $70

Cardamom or Lavender Honey by Mellifera Bees, Vancouver

This honey is unbeelievable 😉 I love it in my tea and my husband loves it in his coffee. Lately I have been loving it drizzled over cheese! Beekeeper Melissa Cartwright harvests her honey from happy hives in BC and suffuses them with a bouquet of aromatic flavours. Last year at Out of Hand, Melissa’s honey sold out and she won best booth design! Value $11

Black Lavender Tea by Westholme Tea Company, Duncan

I am a devout tea drinker. This tea is a personal favourite of mine. Margit and Victor of Westholme are the first (and only) commercial organic tea grower in Canada. If you have not tried a truly good cup of premium tea you will find there is no comparison between the quality and flavour hand selected, organic small batch tea and the mass produced tea most of us drink. Pour this tea into your yunomi cup, add a little of the honey and enjoy. You may just join team tea! Value $17

Lavender Essential Oil by Bilston Creek Farm, Metchosin

Bilston Creek Farm is a gorgeous lavender, apple and honey farm in the heart of Metchosin. It is also a very popular weeding and picnic venue.  Bilston produces and distills all its own lavender to creative a beautiful line of lavender products. Use the essential oil in this box with the lava stones on the stacker bracelet and wear the calm of lavender as you navigate the coming months.  Value $17.50

Beau TEA Ful Silver Teaspoon by Olds Cool Designs, Kelowna

Unbeknownst to me when Olds Cool Designs was selected for Out of Hand, Wendy Yates its creator is my cousins’ cousin and we had on occasion to vacationed together when we were young. Fast forward a few years (I won’t tell you how many) and I am delighted to include this little treasure in this box. Wendy uses found silver pieces to create very cool new pieces. Use this Beau TEA Ful Silver Teaspoon with your tea and honey. I hope it makes you smile each time you use it. Value $21.50

Infinity Scarf by KOME Designs, Vancouver

Exclusive to this box, designer Kjaer Pedersen designed this beautiful scarf.  Adding a scarf to any outfit gives another dimension, it can dress it up or dress it down. This infinity scarf can be worn many different ways. You can see my preference in the attached photo – one tight loop, one long loop. Years ago, I had a favourite scarf very similar to this one that I wore so much the people in my life begged me to retire it. This one may end up in the same category! Value $40.00

Orange or Mint Melts from Rock Coast Confections, Saanich

Chocolate goes with just about everything. Made by confectioner Amber Isles these chocolates are melt in your mouth good. Handmade with 54% ethically and sustainably sourced dark chocolate, these are all vegan and free of artificial flavours and colours. Eating these melts is good for the body and the soul. Value $6

 Yunomi Pottery Cup

Pottery takes time to create. For the Ooh La La Box order, three potters were asked to create a Yunomi Cup. They have created three distinctly different designs. I chose a Yunomi style cup because in the coming days and weeks, wrapping you hand around a of your favourite hot drink will warm up the day. The other reason I chose this style of cup is for its versatility, it can be used for many other things – as a vase, succulent planter, a toothbrush holder, desk organizer, etc. Value $30 to $40.

Katy Fogg, Living Earth Pottery, Comox – Tall Yunomi Cup
Ann Coleman, Yunomi Studios, Victoria – Cream Yunomi Cup
Vincent Fe, Dirty Dragon Studios, Sooke – Heart Yunomi Cup

Our first Ooh La La Box seasonal subscription box was a sell out!

Thank you so much to everyone who subscribing to the Ooh La La Box and have sent us such amazing comments and feedback!

The Ooh La La Box was an idea developed after our Spring Out of Hand (Ooh) Modern Market was cancelled. It’s an entirely different way to bring makers and shoppers together. I am excited the idea is now a reality and so glad our subscribers love their boxes!

We worked with eight amazing makers to create the first Ooh La La Box. It’s a small representation of the beautiful hand made goods found at Out of Hand Modern Market. It is inspired by summer fun and sun, the colour pink, and a few personal inspirations and preferences – raspberries remind me of my grandmother’s backyard, the scent of plumeria transports me to Maui, I love sweet treats and cocktails, gorgeous jewellery, and being in the company of family and friends on warm summer evenings.

With all the boxes now delivered I am thrilled to reveal what was inside our Summer Ooh La La Box:

Gold Tinsel Earrings by Leah Yard Designs, Vancouver

These have to be one of the sexiest pair of hoops ever. When dressing to (finally) go out these earrings will be the perfect finishing touch to your outfit. Jewellery designer Leah Yard has created these gorgeous curved hoop earrings and made them by hand with 14 Karat Gold Fill. Value$70

Ooh La La Summer Candle by Cordova Candle Co, Saanich

Ooh La La Box Exclusive: This candle was created just for the Ooh La La Box. Inspired by my love of the beautiful Hawaiian island of Maui, our Ooh La La Summer Candle is scented with plumeria, used in the iconic lei flower. The richly scented plumeria flower is blended with lilac, jasmine, gardenia and guava. Value $34

Pink and Gold Coasters by jmp flow + design, Victoria

Every one of these gorgeous resin coasters are a small work of art by Jocelyn Pransky. They look fabulous under any summer cocktail but especially something with bubbles in a tall elegant glass. Value $25

Summer skin needs a little love. Using this sugar crush body polish with natural goodness of petite sugar crystals, decadent butters and a zesty blend of refreshing essential oils, will leave your skin luminous. Created by Nicole Sullivan a skincare guru who is a holistic aesthetician, clinical aromatherapist and a naturopath. Value $30

Pretty in Pink Jewellery Dish by Driftwood Pinchpots, Victoria

Ooh La La Exclusive: This super sweet little dish was created just for the Ooh La La Box by Tanya Lee of Driftwood Pinchpots. It’s pretty pink glaze with a hint of gold along with the unique design make this dish adorable! Use it for jewellery, soap or perhaps gumdrops 😉 Value $20

Tropical Palms by Goldilocks Wrap, Victoria

In addition to the eco-friendly essence of these wraps, one of the things I love about Goldilocks Wraps is that each of the beautiful designs are created by founder Amy Hall.  Large flora and fauna make up this trendy tropical palm set perfect for taking along on a summer picnic. Value $30

Raspberry Vanilla Syrup by frostbites syrup co, Squamish

Created by Chef Peggy Speir, this Raspberry Vanilla Syrup is so delish! Lush, tart, raspberries are given a decadent twist with bourbon vanilla beans, that can be used for many things (soda, dessert, trifles and more). My choice though –a summer cocktail! Make yourself a Pink Lady and enjoy. Value $10

Raspberry Vanilla Gumdrops from Tout de Sweet, Victoria

I admit it – I have a weakness for sweet treats. And these sugar coated chewy gumdrops are irresistible. Created and made by hand by Tout de Sweet owner Jeanette Miller using real local raspberry and classic vanilla bean these Raspberry Vanilla Gumdrops are so, so yummy! Value $8.25

If you are shopping for Mother’s Day, we will be making local deliveries on Friday, May 8th. We will also deliver on Mother’s Day, May 10th for a $10 donation to the Victoria SPCA.

Out of Hand Goes Online! April 29 to May 1, 2020

We are moving our Spring Market from the big barn to online!

From April 29 to May 1, you will be able to shop many of the artists and makers that would have been at our Spring Market. For these three days the makers will be offering discounts and deals through their online shops. The participating makers and their offers will be listed on our website soon. Link to their website through our site and use the promo code “oohspring” to save!

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10th. While we are all staying safe by staying home, we can still surprise the moms in our lives. This market is the perfect time to shop for and have the items delivered for Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day isn’t the only reason to shop though – we all deserve some presents right now. Buy direct from the makers of beautiful handmade goods. Jewellery, pottery, bodycare, food, beverage, home décor, fashion and more will all be part of this online market.

Please note your purchases will support artists and makers who, like many small businesses, have been hit particularly hard by the current COVID-19 crisis. In addition to all of the market cancellations, their retail contracts have been put on hold due to the closure of most retails stores. These makers are seeing a drastic reduction in their sales and their ability to sell their items has been greatly diminished. Your purchases will be so appreciated and will help keep these makers going during these difficult times.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Happy shopping!

Spring Market Cancelled

It is with sadness and disappointment that we announce that our Spring Market has been cancelled in response to the recommended suspension of all mass gatherings over 250 people due to COVID-19.

We were excited to add a Spring Market and to be creating a new tradition for our market shoppers – an opportunity to shop for, or spend the day with your mom, on the Mother’s Day weekend. After months of planning, this market was to take place in the big barn at Saanich Fairgrounds featuring shopping, eating, and making, with over 70 artists and makers, food trucks, coffee cart, live music and a floral workshop all onsite.

While this market is cancelled we strongly encourage you to shop these artists and makers direct or through the stockists they partner with. Please visit our Makers Page to view the list of artists and makers and link to their websites. Please continue to support local businesses during this difficult time. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook as we will be featuring these makers in the coming weeks.

Looking forward we have booked the 2021 Spring Market. It will take place in the big barn at Saanich Fairgrounds on May 7th and 8th with all the same features as we planned for this year. We look forward to presenting this market and all of the participating vendors.

The 32nd annual Out of Hand Modern Market will take place November 20 to 22 in the Crystal Garden. We look forward to seeing you then and wish everyone good health in the meantime.
