Coastal inspired art & jewellery. Handcrafted with love and care in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.
Specializing in pyrography and paint, most pieces are made using wood, heat and fire. Each piece is 100% free-hand drawn using a wood-burning tool.
I aim to work sustainably and with respect to the earth that I draw my inspiration from.
I am the maker behind Coastal Roots Art.
I have always enjoyed experimenting with new art mediums. One day I was looking for a new medium to explore when I recalled having a wood-burning tool as a child. I decided to re-visit this medium and begun burning scratchy trees onto small pieces of wood. These naturally evolved into earrings which I wore to work one day. My colleague took notice of them and on our next shift together she brought me a bunch of fresh wood slices cut from some branches from her oak tree. I got busy burning some primitive looking trees on them and they naturally evolved into what we know as my “Tree-Chains” today.
It is difficult not to fall in love, and be inspired by, the magic of Canada’s wild west coast. All of my designs and creations are inspired by the natural beauty around me. I hope to share this remarkable place and the beauty of nature through my functional art pieces.
I always source my materials locally whenever possible and I always aim to work sustainably with respect to the earth where I draw my inspiration from. Every piece is handmade with love and care, using high quality hardware, and re-usable packaging.
You can often find me in the woods or by the beach absorbing the beauty of nature and gathering inspiration for my next design (and filling my pockets with cool finds).WEBSITE
